WHO WE ARE

We are dedicated to obtaining appropriate special educational services for students with disabilities throughout Pennsylvania and have nearly 50 years of experience in education law. Our attorneys have developed extensive knowledge and skills that enable us to provide both efficient and effective representation to families of children with disabilities. Having previously represented school district clients for many years, we are also uniquely qualified to anticipate and understand the challenges parents face in attempting to obtain the educational services their children need.

Hollie B. John, Esq.

FOUNDER

Ms. John is a founder of Jacobson & John LLP, where she provides statewide representation to parents of students with disabilities in a variety of education related matters. Ms. John has over 25 years of experience in the area education law. Ms. John lectures throughout the state to parents, educators, and attorneys on special education and other education law related topics.

Ms. John has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Legal Services for Exceptional Children Committee, where she served as Vice Chair, and as Chair. In her roles as Vice Chair and Chair, she was involved in planning one of the Commonwealth’s preeminent legal conferences in the area of special education law.

Ms. John was previously a shareholder in a Bucks County, Pennsylvania law firm that represented school districts throughout the state, where she spent almost a decade of her legal career. Ms. John’s legal career also includes service as Law Clerk to The Honorable William J. Furber, Jr. of the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County, and as Assistant District Attorney for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Ms. John is a native of and currently resides in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and is a graduate of Central Bucks East High School. She is a graduate, summa cum laude, of Delaware Valley College, and she received her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law.

Stephen J. Jacobson, Esq., Psy.D.

FOUNDER

Dr. Jacobson is a founding member of Jacobson & John, LLP. For nearly 25 years Dr. Jacobson has been exclusively involved with education law, and has presented extensively on both special and general education topics across Pennsylvania to parents, educators, attorneys and hearing officers.

Originally from Colorado, Dr. Jacobson graduated cum laude from Colorado State University with a degree in Psychology in 1991, and in 1998, concurrently earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology cum laude from Widener University, and a law degree cum laude from the Widener University School of Law. Immediately following law school, Dr. Jacobson was employed by the United States District Attorneys’ Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and by the University of Pennsylvania Center for Psychotherapy Research.

From 2011-2016 Dr. Jacobson also served as Co-Chair of the Exceptional Children Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. In 2014, Dr. Jacobson helped launch the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s campaign “Have a Voice In Your Exceptional Child’s Education”, a State-wide bar association initiative to provide parents throughout Pennsylvania with an overview of their special education rights. Dr. Jacobson also routinely helps organize the annual “Snapshots of Special Education Law” program for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.
